Ruins: D&D Scale
Ruins are one of the easiest things to make. If you're just starting out with terrain building, I highly recommend buying a piece of pink or blue insulation foam from your local home improvement store and having a go.
Along with pink insulation foam, I've used small grade gravel (use kitty litter!), flock and bushes from Woodland Scenics as well as static grass.
Arrange them in any way you like - I went with a basic square shape.
It's old, so if they droop, it's perfectly fine.
Cover everything in paint and then top with static grass and flock.
Push the flocking into the crevasses for the best effect.
